AFTER THE DELUGE PEOPLE AND WE
River Kosi was known for its turbulence and frequent change of courses. For centuries the land in its lower valleys remained inhospitable, human habitations quite unsettled.
In 1950s, massive technological interventions began to tame it. Spurs, Barrages, Embankments, but floods remained a recurrent thing, always. August 2008, defiance of Kosi reached a pinnacle. An awesome deluge seen breaking all erected barriers, and all its dead channels once again alive.
VIKASH VIHAR, till then working in western parts of Bihar, rose to the occasion. Stepped in with some emergency relief, then partnered in rehabilitation work, and goes on to reclaim life, living and development that badly suffered, and continues to suffer.
This small documentary is a moving tale of what had happened, and what needs to be done ahead.
